i went to the thrift store today and found a bunch of old iron man and fantastic four comics. so, being the nerd that i am, i bought 13 of them. but my real treasure was this little book (griffin & sabine), sitting cock-eyed on the shelf. what drew me to it was a baby parrot on the cover, all frazzled-looking and it was absolutely adorable. i didn't even flip through the book to see what it was about, i just wanted it because of the completely adorable parrot on the cover. i thought, oh that would be a cute tattoo, or maybe i could paint that. but now as i'm reading this little gem, i have found that it has been the greatest treasure of the year so far. there's a quote in it, from one of the characters which says, "I crave an art that passionately transcends the mundane instead of being a device for self-deception." and my mind has exploded...
